Why Do Kids need Chiropractic?
One of the most common questions I get in my office when people hear that I treat kids is, "Why do kids need chiropractic?" The first thing I explain is that not ALL kids need chiropractic, but I believe that ALL kids need to be checked to see if they do or not. The earlier we can find and correct an imbalance in the spine, the easier it is to do so.
The body is growing, adapting, and learning at such a rapid pace when we are kids. If there is a imbalance in the spine, the body will adapt to that imbalance and can cause major health problems in the future.
So how can a infant have a spine that is out of balance?
Harvard did a study on how much pressure is put on a baby's spine when they are pulled out by their head at child birth. The average pressure was 60lbs! When I first hear that statistic my jaw it the floor! In a way, it made sense after hearing that why I see kids that do need chiropractic.
When my daughter was born, I was checking her spine minutes after the delivery. Was I laying her down on a table doing a full spine full force adjustment!!?? HECK NO!! I was delicately feeling the tone of the muscles for equality between each side and I was checking visually to see if there was any signs of imbalance. On my daughter I found the her neck was slightly tighter on the right side as apposed to the left. I then did a light figure tip wiggle for a few seconds until i felt the tone change. I then heard my daughter let out a little sigh and snuggle into my chest. It was like I had eased just a little bit of stress on her neck and she was able to the relax better.
